Crepes and Hebrews Cafe

2 Comments | This entry was posted on Feb 26 2010

I am a huge fan of crepes. I particularly adore the Mango Sushi Crepe and Banana Almond Crepe from East West. Last night, my boyfriend and I went to this new cute cafe called Hebrews. It’s a fairly new cafe located in Skyrise 3, Asiatown IT Park, Cebu City.  They serve affordable crepes and I got the Banana Nutella while Jonathan got the Mango Crepe, as usual.

I really enjoyed my order and I was delighted to see that they serve Stash teas too! I’ve been dying to try anything from Stash but I couldn’t find the brand in any of the malls I’ve visited so far. I got the peppermint tea and it was tastier than its Twinings counterpart – something I never thought I’d say, being the crazy Twinings fan that I am.

The cafe was lovely too. It had interesting fixtures and the lampshades made of teapots and tea saucers were stunning. I am a sucker for adorable interior designs and Hebrews is so far, the cutest cafe I’ve visited. It looks so much better than the more corporate-looking Starbucks, Coffee Bean, etc.

I forgot to bring my camera so here are some crappy photos from my phone’s camera and two more photos from soloflightEd.com:

Anyway, I googled crepe recipes just now and they look surprisingly easy based on the videos. I know that I fail at any kitchen-related activity but I’ve been checking out kitchen tools and accessories and I might just give crepe-cooking a try. :D

Heroic Ants are Heroic

Being a big fan of Animal Planet and National Geographic, I have subscriptions to several blogs that feature amazing animal stories. From the kick-ass Japanese bees (which put European bees to shame), to the horror of meeting a black mamba, to dog rescue tales; I have always found these kind of stuff interesting.

Now here comes the ants. I don’t really think highly of these little insects and I don’t know anyone who does. They can be very pesky and annoying. I remember a time when they were attacking my food so aggressively that they have flocked into it while I was still eating. Yep, very annoying indeed.

But unknown to a lot of us, ants can be real heroes in their community. When a certain ants get sick, they abandon their home and walk far way from their ant relatives to die alone. It is a valiant act of heroism to prevent the illness that is threatening their lives to spread to the entire ant colony. It is a valiant act of heroism that is almost alien to humans. I know quite a few people who are pretty scared of loneliness and of dying alone, and that includes myself. hehehe

In the Flowers

I’m not a big fan of flowers but the roses I got for Valentines Day were pretty. :) I had chocolates too. I missed Samba. I haven’t eaten one for the longest time. Too bad we got the crispy version of it and not the one I used to eat a lot over two years ago. The black chocolates weren’t really my type but they were delicious as well.

Thank you, boyfriend.

Valentines Day is a silly pseudo-holiday that I find pretty much useless, but I hope you all had a good one this year.

Valentines Day Mixtape and My Thesis

2 Comments | This entry was posted on Feb 14 2010

A Valentines Day mixtape for you guys here. It consists mostly of the songs in my boyfriend’s birthday mixtape which I got for him last Sunday, but anyway, they suit a livelier and more love-filled Valentines Day too! No more lonely February songs!

The last few days have been crazy and hectic. My thesis was due for a presentation last Friday and it was insane. I lost a lot of sleep, got sick and almost peed my pants due to nerves that simply won’t calm down but it was well worth it. I think it’s safe to say that my first presentation was a success. I managed to meet the requirements and impress my adviser. I was stoked/scared/fierce and promised myself to go apeshit on the celebration I was planning after but I felt too tired to go out and party.  It’s like all the adrenaline rushing  throughout the day came crashing back down. I barely even had the energy to go out for some  pizza.

My mother was supportive all throughout the preparations. She even got me this corporate-looking suit which was unnecessary but I still wore it for the lulz. After a quick nap, my boyfriend successfully dragged me out for some pizza and I capped the night with an hour of back massage. I must have snored but that’s okay. :P

Lest you think my thesis and future are sealed, they aren’t. This is the calm before the storm. I have another presentation in two weeks and it’s Me vs SugarCRM-Moodle-Data Mining-Artificial Intelligence all over again. Wish me luck! I need it!

Hidden Paradise and The National

February’s first weekend was spent with a blast. I was with my CMSC 142 class on our midterm outing in Hidden Paradise. Hidden Paradise is a mountain resort located in San Fernando, Cebu. It’s roughly 1.5 hours away from the city but that’s just a wild estimate since I never really tracked the time of travel. hrhr.

Pictures!

The trip was more fun than I anticipated it to be. I usually feel qualms the night before any party or gathering with people that I’m not close with. I worry about not knowing the right things to say or making situations awkward with my presence. I anticipate the worst and always imagine myself to be gawky and timid all throughout but it wasn’t at all like that. The games probably helped a lot in calming down my nerves and I was able to mingle with people in a socially acceptable way. hehehe.

It was really tiring though but the day ended pretty well in general. I had late dinner with my boyfriend in Tandoori (best Persian restaurant EVER) and all is cool that ends cool.

THIS DAY IN MUSIC:
Check out The National, you guys. They’re awesome.

I’ve been listening to this album since the day I got it and I’m hooked. There’s no song in this album that’s bad. For starters, you might want to check out Fake Empire, there’s a video of them performing it live on the David Letterman show. If you like Interpol, Joy Division and Pupil, you’ll probably like ‘em too.
